Yesterday Gabe played hooky from school, and he and mom headed to Fire Island to visit our friends Brook, Avi, Sadie and Mae. Despite a lot of driving, and a near catastrophe when we missed our ferry there, we managed to make it pretty much when expected, and we had a great time. Gabe loved flying the kite with Avi and building a sand castle with Sadie. Actually, Avi built the castle and Sadie and Gabe liked knocking it down. They even had their first sleepover! After a bit more time on the beach and a delicious and fun dinner with some other friends, we managed to catch our ferry home without incident, and got some great sunset views on the way. All in all a huge success! We can't wait to head back, though next time we're planning on a longer stay.
